APEC 2009, Singapore
As Host of APEC 2009, Singapore is responsible for organizing a series of key APEC meetings and related events throughout the year, including the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting, APEC Trade Ministers’ Meeting, APEC CEO Summit and APEC Leaders Summit. Singapore also undertakes the important task of agenda-setting and coordination amongst the APEC member economies, as well as deciding on policy direction, theme for the year and chairing the various meetings.
The US-APEC Business Coalition
The US-ASEAN Business Council has again been given the honour to Co-Chair the US-APEC Business Coalition in 2009 along with the National Center for APEC (NCAPEC). The Coalition, in which the Council is a founding member, brings together leading U.S. business associations active on APEC and Asian business affairs in support of U.S. business goals and priorities in the APEC process. Members of the Coalition include: Council of the Americas, National Center for APEC, US-ASEAN Business Council, US Chamber of Commerce, US Council for International Business and several others.
The Coalition also provides logistical support for US executives attending the Summit, and would organize bilateral meetings for US business executives with APEC Leaders and Ministers present at the APEC Summit.
The US-APEC Business Coalition was formed in 1993 to coordinate U.S. business input for the first APEC Leaders Meeting at Blake Island. Now in its fourteenth year, the Coalition brings together the leading U.S. business associations active on APEC and Asian business affairs in support of U.S. business goals and priorities in the APEC process. The Coalition, in which the Council is a founding member, is made up of the following organizations: Council of the Americas, National Center for APEC, US-ASEAN Business Council, US-Asia Pacific Council, US Chamber of Commerce, US-China Business Council and US-Japan Business Council, US Council for International Business and several others.
