US-APEC Business Coalition


The US-ASEAN Business Council serves as Co-Chair of the US-APEC Business Coalition when an ASEAN country is the APEC host, as Vietnam was in 2006 and Singapore in 2009. The Coalition, in which the Council is a founding member, brings together leading U.S. business associations active on APEC and Asian business affairs in support of U.S. business goals and priorities in the APEC process. was formed in 1993 to coordinate U.S. business input for the first APEC Leaders Meeting at Blake Island. Members of the Coalition include: Council of the Americas, National Center for APEC, US-ASEAN Business Council, US Chamber of Commerce, US Council for International Business and several others. The Coalition also provides logistical support for US executives attending the Summit, and would organize bilateral meetings for US business executives with APEC Leaders and Ministers present at the APEC Summit.


Highlights

With Singapore as host in 2009, the Council was responsible for co-organizing the APEC CEO Summit.The Council organized meetings with Prime Minister Abhisit of Thailand and Prime Minister Najib of Malaysia, as well as meetings with United States Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk, Undersecretary of State Bob Hormats, and co-Chairman of the House APEC Caucus Representative Kevin Brady.


The Council held its 2009 Board of Directors meeting on the sidelines of the APEC summit, featuring briefings from ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, and H.E. Goh Chok Tong, Senior Minister and Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore.
