Overview
As part of the Council's effort to provide the most
comprehensive "business briefing" on ASEAN
in the global economy, the Council is pleased to announce
the creation of an ASEAN-India section to our website.
This section, similar to our ASEAN + 3 page, will provide
information and resources to track ASEAN's growing strategic
engagement in the areas of trade, investment, and defense
with India. This addition to our programming reflects
our continued belief that understanding ASEAN well,
requires understanding the evolution of ASEAN's links
with Asia (ASEAN + 3, India and bilateral links with
Japan).
US awareness about India's emergence as global competitor
in information technology and one of Asia's leading
growth engines has grown in recent years. However the
Council believes that the level of understanding about
the growing connections between India and ASEAN and
their implications for the US business community in
the region have yet to be fully developed.
The Council recognizes that the ASEAN-India relationship
has the potential to be one of Asia's most strategic
intra-regional dynamic relationships. Hence, as we continue
to monitor ASEAN's engagement with the plus three countries
(Japan, Korea and China), we will look to provide perspectives
on how regional trends in ASEAN and developments in
Asia are influenced by ASEAN's growing ties with India.
