About the Working Group

Following the successful program, "Cabinet Forum: Harnessing ICT for Effective Governance," which took place in Manila, Philippines on November 12, 2004, both Council members and ASEAN government officials expressed the need for a group within the Council focused on ICT issues in the region. In response, the Council formed the ICT Working Group. Through public-private partnerships, consultative meetings and ICT programs involving US and regional government officials, the US-ASEAN Business Council ICT Working Group is dedicated to advancing the technology goals of ASEAN and individual ASEAN countries.

We believe that supporting ASEAN’s efforts to strengthen their ICT policy and regulatory frameworks and individual national ICT master plans through adopting a holistic approach to ICT policy and regulatory formulation and application that recognizes the role of the private sector in leading innovation can produce win-win opportunities for both the public and private sector.

The Only US Private Sector Group Invited to the annual ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Senior Officials Meeting

Since 2006 the Council's ICT Working Group has been invited to meet with the ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Senior Officials during their annual regional meeting, to discuss what the private sector can do to assist ASEAN in shaping up a policy and regulatory environment that bears the “hallmark” characteristics of a competitive, innovative, and investment-friendly region. On the sidelines of this meeting, traditionally the Working Group also holds bilateral meetings with several of the ICT Ministers.

ICT Business Mission to the Region

In addition to our meeting with the Senior Officials and other key events, the Working Group also conduct an ICT-focused business mission to the region. Over a period of two-three days, the Working Group meets with top government leaders to discuss ICT-specific issues.
