H.E. U Linn MyaingAmbassador of the Union of Myanmar to the United States
Born in Yangon, Myanmar, on 15 October 1947, U Linn Myaing obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1969 and began his career as a naval officer. He later joined the Myanmar Foreign Service and from 1993-94 served as Deputy Director, Americas Division of the Political Department, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served first as counselor, then as Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the Union of Myanmar to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva from 1994-97. In 1998, he became a Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was attached as Minister, Deputy Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of Myanmar in Geneva. He was named Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the French Republic as well as Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Union of Myanmar to UNESCO in 1999. He was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Belgium and the Swiss Confederation with Residence in Paris, in 2000. In that same year, he was named Head of the Mission of the Union of Myanmar to the European Union. He arrived in Washington DC in May, 2001 to assume duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the United States of America. He presented his credentials to the President of the United States in June 20, 2001. He has attended various United Nations related fora in Katmandu, Geneva, Vienna, New York, Paris, and the Hague including the United Nations General Assembly sessions. He is married to Daw Thi Thi Ta and has two daughters. |
