The US-ASEAN Business Council hosted a dinner in honor of H.E. Gloria
Macapgal Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines, on November 20, 2001.
In addition, the Council's US-Philippine Business Committee had an in-depth roundtable
discussion that day on priority issues impacting the business climate in the

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was sworn in as the 14th President of
the Philippines on 20 January 2001. She had been elected Vice President of the Philippines
in 1998 with almost 13 million votes, the largest mandate in the history of presidential
or vice presidential elections. She had previously served six years in the Philippine
