Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong to Give Keynote Address at June 12 U.S. Ambassadors Tour Annual Dinner What: Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will give the keynote address at the U.S. Ambassadors Tour annual dinner, to be held at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, on Tuesday June 12th, 2001. The event will include approximately 400 senior executives from US-ASEAN Business Council member companies, leaders from the Administration and Congress, and other members of the Washington policy community. The Dinner is the capstone event of the 9th annual U.S. Ambassadors Tour. Led by the United States Ambassadors to the member countries of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), the U.S. Ambassadors Tours are designed to educate small, medium, and large American companies about the business and commercial opportunities and climate in ASEAN. Since their inception in 1992, the Tours have met with thousands of U.S. business people in a range of industry sectors in more than 30 major metropolitan areas in the U.S. The Prime Minister's visit comes at a time when US-Singapore relations are stronger than they have been in many years. The two countries have just completed the third round of negotiations for a free trade agreement, and have scheduled two additional rounds of talks for July and September of this year. Singapore is the largest U.S. trading partner among the ten ASEAN countries, and is the tenth largest U.S. export market worldwide. Singapore is also the top destination among the ASEAN countries for U.S. foreign investment, which stands at more than US$24 billion. In addition, the two countries cooperate broadly on a range of diplomatic, economic, and security issues.
