US-Indonesia Business Committee Enthusiastic about New Economic Team Sets Dates for October Business Mission Washington, DC. The US-ASEAN Business Council's US-Indonesia Business Committee expressed its enthusiastic support for the economic team named by President Megawati. We are very encouraged by the composition of the new economic team, said Walter Lohman, Director of the US-Indonesia Business Committee. The Committee was honored to get to know Coordinating Minister Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti quite well during his years as Ambassador to the U.S. He has always been most willing to listen to our concerns and work toward fair resolution of our issues. For three years, during some difficult times, he did an outstanding job promoting investment in Indonesia. The other economic ministers in the new cabinet have likewise been very accessible and cooperative during their government tenures. The naming of this team is a very positive sign for U.S. investors. The Committee has worked with all members of the Presidents economic team. New Minister for Trade and Industry Rini Soewandi co-chaired the Committees 2000 US-Indonesia Private Sector Roundtable in Jakarta. The roundtable is an annual high level discussion of business issues among representatives of the US and Indonesian private sector. Another member of the new cabinet, Kwik Kian Gie, gave the keynote address at the 2000 Roundtable. The US-Indonesia Business Committee will conduct a business mission to Jakarta and Surabaya, October 22-25, 2001, in an effort to directly engage the new cabinet. The US-ASEAN Business Council is a non-profit, national organization in the United States that works to promote increased trade and investment between the US and the member countries of ASEAN. Its office in Jakarta has been made possible with the support of member companies: General Electric Company, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Unocal, and Cigna.
