US-Indonesia Business Committee Welcomes U.S. Government Agrement for New Indonesian Ambassador to Washington Sumadi Brotodiningrat (Washington, DC) The US-ASEAN Business Council's US-Indonesia Business Committee today welcomed U.S. agrement for Indonesian Ambassador-Designate Sumadi Brotodiningrat. "We are very encouraged by this," said Walter Lohman, Director of the
US-Indonesia Business Committee. "Getting Ambassador Sumadi here to Washington will
help greatly in the effort to manage the US-Indonesian relationship during this difficult
time of changing global priorities. From our perspective, the career diplomats who have
run the embassy since Ambassador Dorodjatun's departure have done an admirable job. But
there is no substitute to having a full Ambassador in place." Mr. Lohman continued, "We look forward to working with the Ambassador in his new role. Our member companies remain confident in the basic value of the Indonesian market. We hope to work with the Indonesian Government, DPR, and Ambassador Sumadi to help unlock this potential." Ambassador Sumadi is a career diplomat and most recent Ambassador to Japan. Prior to
that he was Director General for Economic Relations. As DG, he served from 1995-1999 as
head of the Indonesian senior officials delegation to APEC. # # # # #
