US Private Sector Bullish on Singapore

(Singapore) The US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) concluded a senior executives’ mission to Singapore comprised of representatives of 16 major American companies. The group voiced its continued commitment to Singapore, its appreciation for Singapore's friendship and business friendly environment, and discussed areas of additional trade and investment. The Chairman of USABC bilateral US-Singapore Business Council, Bob Bauerlein of The Boeing Company, and USABC President Matthew Daley led the delegation of 25 executives.

"The companies represented on this mission are major stakeholders in the U.S.-Singapore relationship. We were here to underscore the central importance to the business community of the U.S.-Singapore partnership. It’s good for us to talk to them about how we can do more.  But Singapore is also a global economic leader and model environment in many respects.  We want to reinforce that," Mr. Bauerlein said, following the two-day program.

The delegation met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister for Transport Yeo Cheow Tong, Minister of State Chan Soo Sen, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Yeo, Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean, Permanent Secretary of Finance Lim Siong Guan, and Minister of Health Khaw Boon Wan.

The Council leads a business mission to Singapore every year. This is its largest yet.

The companies represented on the mission consisted of a broad cross section of industries. In addition to the Boeing Company, they include: Agilent Technologies, ConocoPhillips, Federal Express, Fluor Corporation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Harrah’s Entertainment, Island Power Company, Northrop Grumman International, Raytheon Corporation, Taser International, Tyco Fire Security & Services, Unisys, UPS and United Technologies.
