American Businesses Reaffirm Confidence to Vietnam
(New York) Following a year of achievements including joining the WTO and attaining Permanent Normalized Trading Relations with the United States, Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung arrives in New York to address the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 27. The US-ASEAN Business Council and its Chairman, Martin Sullivan, President & CEO, the American International Group (AIG) are honored to host Prime Minister Dung and his delegation at a roundtable and luncheon on Wednesday, September 26, at AIG headquarters in New York City. The event will be attended by 30 leaders of the United States’ foremost corporations. |
Under its current leadership, Vietnam looks not only to further its economic integration but also to play a more vital role in the world political decision making process. “We are pleased that even as the Prime Minister focuses on enhancing Vietnam’s political stature, he is still concerned with building the best business and investment climate in Vietnam. His openness to engaging United States companies during the reform process will ensure that Vietnam continues to develop at its current rapid growth. During our roundtable, we will discuss the best ways to ensure continued growth in trade and investment between our two countries,” said Matt Daley, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council. To further expand and focus the Council’s work in Vietnam, Mr Daley also announced the opening of a US-ASEAN Business Council office. The office will be located at the headquarters of the current Chair of the Vietnam Committee, General Electric, in Hanoi.
The past nine months has shown Vietnam’s ability to continue its tremendous growth. It has managed to continue to engage a wide number of companies including those sponsoring today’s roundtable and lunch including AIG, AES, The Boeing Company, bp, Cargill, Chevron, CitiGroup, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Oracle.
