May 17Washington, DCRoundtable Discussion with HE Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore Please join us for a discussion with Professor Tommy Koh, one of Asia's most accomplished and capable diplomats. He will share his views on ASEAN's competitiveness vis-à-vis China and India, the opportunities and challenges facing Singapore, and efforts to further integrate ASEAN members' economies. He can also talk about ASEAN's new generation of leaders, and the challenges they may face ahead. Professor Tommy Koh is currently Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Director of the Institute of Policy Studies in Singapore. He served as Singapore's Chief Negotiator for the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, and was Singapore's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) from 1968 to 1971 and again from 1974 to 1984. As President of the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea from 1980 to 1982, he oversaw the successful phrasing of the convention's text that was completed by consensus, rather than the usual method of majority voting.
