Coca-Cola Learning Centers
Accessing Opportunities

Vietnam

With more than 20 million students and strained educational resources, Vietnamese schools are challenged to teach a generation of young people eager to learn. To support the Vietnamese government's efforts to enhance the nation's educational resources, Coca-Cola has partnered with the Ministry of Education and Training and the National Youth Union to set up 40 Coca-Cola Learning Centers across the country.

It's estimated that during every school day in Vietnam, about 10,000 students aged 11-18 participate in educational activities at the Coca-Cola Learning Centers.

Staffed by teachers, these Learning Centers are equipped with computers providing Internet and e-mail access, as well as software, books, and air conditioners to create comfortable, exciting learning environments, both during and after school hours. In many areas, the Learning Centers offer Vietnamese young people their only opportunity to access computer study and research materials.

The program, directed by a Steering Committee comprising members of the project partners, also includes the annual "Young Leaders of the Future" contest. Devised by teachers from the Ministry of Education and Training and the National Youth Union, the contest covers a number of academic disciplines and involves the 200 top students involved in the Learning Center program.

A Learning Center website and intranet have also been set up to enable on-line communication and dialogue between all Centers and program administrators. The program aims to eventually cover each of Vietnam's 61 provinces and cities.
